Antibacterial protection microscopes | Euromex Blue Line

Euromex has introduced Antibacterial Protection Layer (APL) on all many of the microscopes including all Blue Line microscopes :  Bioblue, MicroBlue, EcoBlue and EduBlue. APL is also applied to the bScope and iScope research grade compound microscopes and high end stereo microscopes: StereoBlue and NexiusZoom

APL is a revolutionary paint treatment, which restricts the growth of microorganisms, including bacteria and mold.

APL uses the same technology already applied extensively throughout the healthcare environment in wall coatings, patient lighting, air pressure stabilization and suction liners.

APL additives offer an excellent additional measure to routine infection control; able to resist the growth of microbes

The antimicrobial performance of APL treated microscopes is confirmed by independent laboratory testing to the international standards (JIS and ISO) and is typically proven to be up to 99.99% effective against MRSA and E.coli. Testing has also been carried out against many other organisms, including Legionella, Campylobacter and Candida.

How APL works: Silver ions embedded in the paint are released via ambient moisture and enter the cell membrane of the microorganism cell. The silver ions destabilise the cell by inhibiting cell division and replication of DNA, eventually killing the cell.

Additives based on ionic silver holds extensive approvals including those for food contact. All of the active substances used are approved by the EFSA and FDA, and are supported for inclusion on the European Biocidal Product Regulation.

Euromex do not use nano-silver, triclosan or other organic antimicrobial additives which have health and environmental concerns. The additives used are non-leaching and non-sensitizing.

APL Microscopes

APL is long lasting. Recent independent testing of the new paint demonstrated no loss in antimicrobial performance even after 10 years of accelerated ageing. Ionic silver based additives will not lose efficacy due to leaching or migration. Since they are evenly dispersed throughout the material even scratches and abrasion do not affect the antimicrobial performance.

As APL additives are embedded into the base material or coating, they are therefore unaffected by abrasion or cleaning chemicals, such as chlorine bleach, disinfectants and alcohol. Even harsh industrial products, like MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), do not diminish the antimicrobial properties of products containing APL.

APL is effective against a broad range of bacteria, including those responsible for illness, infection, odours, staining and material degradation. APL doesn’t offer a sterile environment or negate the need for routine cleaning, but will provide a useful complementary measure to normal hygiene practices.
